A desire for daylight and the need for functional reorganiztion to meet the client’s changing spatial demands led to a complete reinterpretation of the 4 level townhouse.

The newly contructed 2 top levels are inserted into the existing brick envelope, and are open completly towards the private outside patio. The exisitng internal main staircase is relocated to the building’s envelope. A vertical cut on the south facade spatially divides the open floor living areas, houses the new staircase, and becomes the main light element for the building.

The redefining of Inside and Outside, creating open, minimal and distintive living spaces while valuing a traditional material and color palette, and an empahis on light are crtitical themes to the design.
